Dimefluthrin is a novel pyrethroid insecticide designed for household and public-health applications, offering effective protection against mosquitoes, including strains that have developed resistance to allethrin and prallethrin. When used according to recommended guidelines, it provides good safety characteristics for humans and has a low environmental impact. Formulated products can be effective at concentrations as low as 0.015%.
For quality control and formulation analysis, Dimefluthrin in mosquito coil products is commonly determined using the GC-ECD (Gas Chromatography–Electron Capture Detector) method developed by Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd., Japan. However, the conventional sample pretreatment procedure is relatively complex, creating a need for a simpler and more practical analytical method suitable for routine production and quality-control applications.
