DL-Valine has the chemical formula C₅H₁₁NO₂ and a molecular weight of approximately 117.15. It is also referred to as DL-α-aminoisovaleric acid or DL-2-amino-3-methylbutyric acid. It appears as a white crystalline powder, with a melting point of about 295℃ and a boiling point of 213.6℃ at 760 mmHg. Its specific rotation is -0.6 to +0.6° (20°C/D)(c=8, HCl). DL-Valine is hygroscopic and easily dissolves in water.
