Cetaxonium chloride, also known as hexadecyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride, is a cationic quaternary ammonium surfactant and a component of benzalkonium chloride. It has high lipophilicity and low water solubility, and is used as an antimicrobial agent, surfactant, preservative, and pharmaceutical excipient.
It is mainly applied in pharmaceutical formulations and research related to oral, throat, and eye infections, with uses as an anti-inflammatory pharmaceutical ingredient.
