Product Description of Sodium metasilicate pentahydrate CAS#10213-79-3
Sodium metasilicate pentahydrate (Na₂SiO₃·5H₂O), also called instant water glass, is a non-toxic, odorless inorganic white powder or crystalline granule. It dissolves readily in water but not alcohol or acid, absorbs moisture and deliquesces in air, with alkaline aqueous solutions. This chemical boasts powerful cleaning, emulsifying, dispersing and wetting effects plus pH buffering performance. It neutralizes acidic grime, breaks down grease, disperses inorganic residues and protects metals against corrosion. As the most popular type of sodium metasilicate, it inherits typical sodium silicate properties and binds calcium and magnesium ions, with magnesium binding capacity exceeding 260mg MgCO₃ per gram under standard test conditions. Ideal for detergents, it delivers stable alkaline buffering, safeguards aluminum, zinc, glass and ceramics from corrosion, suspends dirt and partially softens hard water.

Product Application of Sodium metasilicate pentahydrate
It is widely used in household laundry detergents, laundry pastes, industrial detergents, food cleaners, metal cleaners, textile treatment, and paper deinking. It is an important additive in concentrated detergents, as well as phosphate-free and low-phosphate detergents. It is also used in the ceramic and petroleum industries. It is a white, square crystal or spherical particle that is non-toxic and odorless. It is easily soluble in water but readily absorbs moisture and deliquesces when exposed to air. It has the ability to remove dirt, emulsify, disperse, wet, penetrate, and buffer pH. Concentrated solutions are corrosive to fabrics and skin.
